Been a crazy couple days here in 'ol London town with the yobo kids running riot knicking tv's and trashing everything else. Personally i rekon they should have bust out the tear gas and rubber bullets right from the get-go and set an example before it all flared up but hey, that's just me.
I dont have any pics of rioting kids to post because i was sitting comfortably on my couch watching it on the TV so instead here's a pic of Caroline from last week.
I'll think you'll agree she's way easier on the eye than your average hoodie scum!

RIP Zama Ndamase

I was very saddened today to hear the news that 16 year old surfer from Port St Johns in the Transkei, Zama Ndamase, had been attacked by a shark and died from loss of blood at his home break of Second Beach. I met and shot with Zama four years ago during a trip Miles Masterson and myself did to document the plight, and rise, of surfers from South Africa's townships and ghettos for Huck Magazine.

Now 16, Zama had risen to become one of Borders most promising surfers from the Pt St Johns area. Not only was he surfing competitively for the province, competing at the SA Grommet Games and the SA Junior Championships, but he had been awarded the SSA Surfing Scholarship in 2009 along with fellow Port St Johns surfer Zitobile Msesiwe.

One of my favorite pictures from that Huck trip was one of Zama and his older brother Avuyile outside their home a few hundred meters from Second Beach. I can remember how stoked him and his brother were on surfing and how pleased and proud his mom was they doing something healthy that kept them outa trouble and away from the tsotsis.

A fund has been setup to help the Ndamase with the necessary expenses and get a grief counselor to the area to help the other kids deal with this tragedy. The details are on the Zigzag website here.

Two days ago there it was really muggy and humid here with some pre-frontal conditions. It had all the makings of a pretty nuts sunset so I rigged up the flash housing and called Royden and Frankie. The sky played along but unfortunately the waves didn't and it was pretty small and gutless. Oh well maybe next time....

These are part of a test I shot with my friend Anastasia. She needed a new headshot for her book before she left for London so we got together and did a little test.
These are kinda a test within a test, my attempt at a Paolo Roversi style portrait, although I had the luxury of digital and he gets it right with 10x8 sheet film!
Gonna post the rest of the pics from the test as soon as I've finished retouching.
Still battling with crap internet connection hence the lack of posts but have a solution in sight so looking forward to getting more involved with this blog.
